Glossary of Learning Terms > A > Authoring Tool
A software program used by training professionals to create e-learning content. Depending on the authoring tool used, the content created is referred to as modules, courses, books or other such terms. The content created usually complies with industry standards (i.e., AICC, SCORM). Some of the more popular authoring tools are Captivate, Director, Toolbook, Articulate, Lectora, Flash, and DreamWeaver. An LCMS (Learning Content Management System) can also be used to author content. See also AICC, SCORM, LCMS.
