Glossary of Learning Terms > L > Learning Content Management System (LCMS)

A knowledge management environment where instructional designers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) can create, collect, store, deliver and re-use e-learning content from a central object repository, usually a database. Learning content, including media is stored in reusable content chunks, called learning objects. Learning objects can then shared by all users throughout the organization. These systems usually have good search capabilities, allowing instructional designers and SMEs to quickly find the text or media needed to build training content.
